Situated on a sloping site, the design of this family house draws firmly on the existing farmhouses found in the locality. In plan the house adopts the 18th century format of a two room cottage, kitchen living room and parlour. The front façade presents the house as effectively a single storey structure through the omission of any windows at the ground floor sleeping level while the balustraded floor to ceiling openings express the ‘piano nobile’ at the upper level. Finely crafted joinery is used throughout to creating a warm feel to the interior which contrasts with the clean white lines of the exterior form.
