Architecture is a public art and we believe that the quality of our built environment directly influences the quality of our lives. Our philosophy is based on the creation of a total environment satisfying the various aspects of social, economic and aesthetic considerations. We believe that only through close collaboration with our clients can each project’s needs be fully understood and creatively interpreted. Our design solutions draw their inspiration from what is special and unique about each project, the interests of the client, the setting and the quality of construction. Our projects are distinctive, cost-effective, well-engineered, sustainable and have won national and international awards for quality.
Burdon Craig Dunne Henry Architects (BCDH) is an architectural practice providing a comprehensive consultancy service for the design of buildings and urban environments. Our expertise includes architecture, interior design, master planning, product design and graphics. The driving focus of the practice is design excellence achieved through close collaboration with our clients, other consultants and specialists. Our experience covers a wide range of building types including: office developments; community buildings; residential developments including private and public housing; one-off bespoke houses; mixed-use urban renewal projects; industrial buildings and business parks; shopping centres; sporting facilities; retail fit outs; educational facilities and childcare facilities. We have established a reputation both for the quality of our design work and the efficiency of our management of complex building projects. Our commitment to excellence and client satisfaction is reflected in the large quantity of repeat business secured.
The ethos of the practice is reflected in the open plan layout of our offices at Grand Canal Wharf. Here directors, associates and all staff share identical desks in a bright, contemporary, open plan workspace. Teamwork at all levels of the design and construction process remains our guiding principle. The technical infrastructure at our Grand Canal Wharf office underpins the core work of the practice. Our extensive up-to-the-moment technical, architectural and environmental databanks and support information are fully integrated with our IT systems and are subject to continuous development. We actively pursue new technologies to ensure our effectiveness in project design and delivery and to make communication with our clients more rapid and effective. Research into new and emerging technologies is an integral part of our work. The office pursues a thorough and innovative approach to planning and design where each project is treated as an on-going dialogue with the client and alternatives are presented and evaluated on the basis of maximum lifecycle benefit.
Although a substantial portion of our workload over the last 10 years has been within Dublin and its environs, we have also undertaken a substantial amount of projects and feasibilities in the surrounding counties. In particular this has included a substantial amount of work of both large and small scale in County Louth. We are aware that clients are very keen to be able to have regular face to face contact with their architect and in recognition of this we have taken the opportunity to establish a small regional office in Dundalk. With the change in the world’s economic situation, we have like businesses in other sectors, looked across the water to the UK for new business opportunities. As a result of this, we have now completed one project in London, the Boat House, with two additional projects currently under way in the capital. We have also currently a number of other projects under consideration elsewhere in Scotland and the South West. In order to best service our clients in the United Kingdom, we have established a regional office in London and committed time from our directors to support and develop this office.
BCDH have also undertaken projects throughout Ireland in locations as diverse as Inishowen, Tralee and Waterford. Managing projects at a distance does require a degree of discipline on our part in order to provide the same level of service for all our customers. The advent of modern forms of communication for the transfer of drawings and data and the improvement in the national road infrastructure have played not insignificant roles in making this feasible.
